A CHINESE firm, Wuhu Volibear New Energy Company (Wuhu), says it is exploring the Zimbabwean market with a view to partner a local dealership in the manufacturing of electric cars.
This comes as some companies in the country, including Zesa Holdings, have been exploring the possibility of switching to electric cars as a cost-cutting measure.
“At present, we want to find a dealer locally and the dealer should be responsible for local marketing, sales and after-sales service. We will give full technical support, in terms of assembly and technical training and warranty,” the Chinese firm’s overseas sales director Ye Tom told The Financial Gazette this week.
“Just like the mobile (phone), you charge and drive. The benefits in China are cost saving and noise free. As you can see that in Zimbabwe or some other countries, gas supply is a big problem, but electricity supply is better. For a single charge, it (the car) can drive four times within a 25km range, I think it’s enough for general work purposes,” he said.
