AirZimbabwe eyes China, London routes

AIR Zimbabwe (AirZim) is planning to introduce China and London routes in a bid to turn around the embattled national airline, Transport minister Biggie Matiza has said.
Matiza said the airline will also resume domestic flights this month, a decision made after consultations with players in the tourism sector. “We are starting with domestic flights on the 21st. We have discussed with stakeholders in the tourism industry and we have agreed that by then there will be enough traffic to warrant the aircraft to fly because soon people will be going for holidays. So, we will start there with daily flights to Victoria Falls,” Matiza said, adding that they also had two B777 planes earmarked for long-haul flights.

“The bigger picture of the plan is that they (B777s) will start plying the Chinese route to Guangzhou and also London in the long term,” he said.
Zimbabwe currently has three planes in operation. One of them was plying the Dar es Salaam route three times per week prior to the Covid-19 outbreak.
Matiza said an Embraer, which has just been serviced in South Africa, will also join the fleet.
