In a statement, Matambo, credited Mazani for the positive turnaround of the organisation during her tenure in office. “We would want to thank and appreciate … Mazani for her sterling performance in successfully leading the authority in the implementation of Zimra’s strategy which supported key pillars of the government’s national Transitional Stabilisation Programme (TSP).

“Under her leadership, Zimra managed to consistently surpass revenue targets set by the ministry of Finance and Economic Development,” Matambo said. With over 35 years experience in revenue administration covering direct and indirect taxes, Mazani has previously served as the regional revenue administration advisor for the IMF Regional Technical Assistance Center (RTAC) for West Africa, based in Ghana.

Having joined the Zimbabwe Department of Taxes in January 1983, Mazani was one of the first Zimra commissioners at its inception in 2001 and has also previously worked for the South Africa Revenue Authority and Deloitte and Touche Zimbabwe, as well as the Swaziland Revenue Authority.

Under her leadership, Mazani fought rampant corruption in the organisation by introducing lifestyle audits, which saw a number of individuals losing their ill-gotten wealth, with the tax collector managing to plug leakages, and recovering $153,78 million during the year ended December 31, 2019.
