Fuel imports plunge 50 percent

ZIMBABWE’S fuel imports more than halved during the 11 months to November 2020, official data shows.
The country was under strict Covid-19 restrictions for most of the period under review with travel bans and the closure of schools and workplaces, and lockdowns around the world to contain surging infection rates have weighed on fuel demand.

Data released this week by the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency shows that the country’s petrol imports during the 11-month period were US$165 million, a 52 percent decline from the US$345 million imported during the same period in 2019.
