West Property plans ‘huge’ mall

WEST Property Zimbabwe says it is planning to build a shopping mall in Harare, which will be the biggest in the country.
Speaking during a virtual unveiling of the company’s new apartments in Borrowdale this week, West Property group founder and chief executive Kenneth Sharpe, said while there was no definite timeline as yet, the plan was expected to be executed soon.

The mall will be part of the Millenium Park Estate.
“Millennium Park is the larger development of which Millennium Heights (apartments) is part of. This is the same park in which we are building an office complex.
“There is literally hundreds of thousands of square metres of space where we will build the biggest mall in Zimbabwe. We are building thousands of housing apartments in the same area, where we have this magnificent vlei, which we are rehabilitating into a beautiful greenland,” Sharpe said.

He said the new apartments are part of a new concept to make luxury housing affordable.
“This new concept is actually a very specific programme that we developed at West Property last year and implemented at the beginning of this year. We wanted to be more customer-centric and bring affordability to luxury housing.”

Sharpe said the company imagined a scenario where residents of the park will be living in a “beautiful area where they can walk into the park and watch ducks in the water and enjoy nature.”
He added that the concept was the first of its kind.

“The development of exclusive apartments in the heart of Borrowdale has never happened before — where you can have a product such as this, that is affordable for under $50 000 as a starting price.

“This is the first block with 24 units. The plan is to build over
1 000 units. In the next 10 years, you will see a whole new city, a whole new community where people can live, work and shop together,” Sharpe said.
