TELECOMMUNICATIONS service provider TelOne has entered into a partnership with Africa University to develop knowledge and skills among its executives.
Speaking at the programme’s inaugural graduation ceremony in Harare last week, Information and Communications Technology (ICT) minister Jenfan Muswere said the partnership will allow the organisation to get up to speed with global trends and new leadership styles.
“The government is driving to make ICT the backbone of the economy, driven by the knowledge that data is now the most traded item in the world surpassing commodities and financial assets…
“We need those that are driving our organisations to be at par with world ICT trends and new leadership styles to take our country forward and be able to resolve industry and economic challenges.
“As you may be aware, human skills development is one of the pillars to the successful implementation of the National Development Strategy 1, which was set to guide Zimbabwe’s economic growth policies.
“We are proud that the TelOne strategy recognises and supports the need for executives to improve themselves through partaking in post-academic programmes such as this course,” the minister said.
A total of 22 senior management staff at the state-owned telco were conferred with leadership certificates for completing the executive development programme.
TelOne has the widest network coverage in Zimbabwe anchored on its robust backbone infrastructure, fibre, satellite and traditional copper.
The company says it has been able to deliver connectivity services at the lowest prices due to its shareholding in the West Indian Ocean Cable Company, which has a major stake in the East African Submarine System cable as well as West Africa Cable System.
The company boasts a fully equipped training centre — the TelOne Centre for Learning, which nurtures creativity, innovation, new ways of working, interacting and learning to support modern ICT and business dynamics.
TelOne also recently partnered Indian company Tejas Networks, for its network expansion drive.
The partnership is expected to bring high-speed transmission of data, while meeting stringent performance and reliability requirements in a cost-effective manner.
