The Financial Gazette’s Features Editor Emmerson Njanjamangezi (EN), recently caught up with the Employers Confederation of Zimbabwe (EMCOZ) occupational safety and health (OSH) consultant, Abednego Chigwada (AC), to get insights on the country’s workplace safety standards. Chigwada is a former Zimplats OSH executive. Currently, he is the advisory director at Global Mining Sustainability and president of the Zimbabwe Institute of Occupational Safety & Health, and chief executive at ABE Risk Solutions.
EN: Congratulations on your new role as Emcoz OSH consultant. Can you explain to us what this entails?
AC: I guess in all our careers we need to give back to the bigger community. In my case, the business community is well represented through EMCOZ. My role largely centres on being the voice of the business community on critical occupational health and safety issues that have an impact on human capital. There is no doubt that the employment sector thrives on healthy and safe people. The loss in this space is immeasurable and hence should be avoided by all
