AMID rising global oil prices, on the back of firm demand for fuel as the world recovers from the ruinous coronavirus pandemic, local businesses are calling for the government to cut fuel taxes and levies, claiming the fees are further pushing up retail prices in the country.
This comes as the Zimbabwe Regulatory Energy Authority (Zera) has been adjusting fuel prices upwards, by approximately three percent, almost every month since the beginning of the year, in response to rising global oil prices. In early October, Zera announced new fuel prices, which saw petrol going up from US$1,38/litre to US$1,40/litre, while diesel rose to US$1,38/litre from US$1,34/litre.
