ZIMBABWE recorded a US$20 million trade surplus with South Africa (SA) during the nine months to September 2021, compared to a deficit of US$232 million during the same period last year, latest Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (Zimstat) data shows.
It comes as trade between the two countries has continued to improve despite restricted movement of people caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Zimbabwe’s exports to SA — its neighbour and major trading partner — increased by 59 percent to US$2,36 billion between January and September this year, compared to the same period last year.
Imports from SA increased by 36 percent to US$2,34 billion.
Shipments across the Limpopo had slumped to a record low in April last year, when exports from Zimbabwe amounted to US$7 million from a peak of US$424 million recorded in Novembe
