‘Zimbabwe needs further business reforms’

ZIMBABWE is expected to be part of the eighth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (Ticad), which is scheduled for Tunisia this August. The Financial Gazette’s Senior Staff Writer, Farai Mabeza (FM) spoke to Japan’s ambassador to Zimbabwe Satoshi Tanaka (ST) about the two countries’ economic and development relations. Below are excerpts from the interview;

FM: Japan will this year hold the Tokyo International Conference on African Development. Tell us more about this conference.
ST: Ticad is the pioneering international conference for development in African countries, which the government of Japan has been leading since 1993.
The previous conference, Ticad7 was held in 2019 in Japan, with more than 10 000 participants. From Zimbabwe, President (Emmerson) Mnangagwa and a number of high-level government officials attended. In Ticad, “African development” has consistently been its basic objective since the first conference.
