Business lauds land borders re-opening

ZIMBABWE National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) says the re-opening of land borders comes as a relief for local firms that were facing rising costs in sourcing key raw materials and consumables from the region.
Though the country’s land borders with Botswana, Mozambique, Zambia and South Africa remained open for commercial traffic, companies witnessed significant downtime and enormous supply chain disruptions due to Covid-19, as well as border clearance delays.
The land borders were also open for returning residents since January last year.

Only airports handled non-commercial activities, as Zimbabwe battled different waves of the deadly pandemic.
In an interview this week, ZNCC chief executive Chris Mugaga said the closing of the land borders was now fuelling smuggling of goods and commodities into the country.
