Employment levels recover from Covid

ZIMBABWE’S employment levels have returned to pre-Covid-19 pandemic levels, according to the World Bank (WB).
This was revealed by the latest report of the Poverty Income Consumption and Expenditure Survey (PICES), a telephone survey based on a prototype that the Bretton Woods institution developed after the onset of the pandemic, to quickly assess the poverty impact in its client countries.
Employment levels plummeted in the heat of the pandemic after a number of company closures and as other businesses resorted to retrenchments for survival.

According to a previous survey by the WB, urban areas were most affected by job loss during the pandemic.
“First, employment has by and large returned to its pre-pandemic level. Any fluctuation is likely due to seasonal variation or factors other than the lockdown, closures, and trade restrictions associated with the pandemic,” WB country manager Marjorie Mpundu said in a statement that accompanied the PICES
