AGRICULTURE permanent secretary John Basera says private sector participation was key in the achievement of last year’s record wheat harvest of around 375 000 metric tonnes.
Basera said this follows government’s thrust to bring in the private sector to fund the production of at least 40 percent of their raw material requirements.
“Our agriculture sector is growing in leaps and bounds. We have witnessed a record winter wheat harvest of 375 000 tonnes and this was about 25 percent growth from the previous season. One of the critical success factors around the wheat harvest was… private sector participation.
