Old Mutual Zimbabwe bids to increase financial literacy training

DIVERSIFIED financial services group, Old Mutual Zimbabwe, says it will this year increase financial literacy education programmes in a bid to reach out to remote areas in the country.
This comes as the group has lined up programmes in Harare and Bulawayo, as well as on social media to mark Global Money Week (GMW).
GMW is an annual global awareness-raising campaign on the importance of ensuring that young people are financially aware from an early age and are gradually acquiring the knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviours necessary to make sound financial decisions and ultimately achieve economic well-being and financial resilience.

This year’s GMW’s theme ‘Plan your money, plant your future’ focuses on sustainability and raising awareness on the implications of individual financial behaviour not only on one’s financial future, but also on the environment and society.
During the Global Money Week, Old Mutual managing director Sam Matsekete said the group seeks to champion financial literacy training in the country.
“We will be conducting ‘On The Money’ financial literacy sessions at the Entrepreneurs Summit in Bulawayo this month,” Matsekete said in a recent note. In Harare, Old Mutual will host youth workshops at Batanai Gardens at the end of this month. On social media, Old Mutual’s financial education specialist, Esther Mutunhodyo, will host Twitter space-themed Money Conversations for Youths at the end of this month.
“Moreover, Old Mutual will also be having a similar workshop in Bulawayo in partnership with Girls in STEM Trust — targeting to reach over 500 girls from higher institutions of learning and secondary school girls,” he added.
GMW focuses on sustainability and raising awareness of the implications of individual financial behaviour.
Matsekete said Old Mutual values and recognises the importance of ensuring that children and youth have access to high-quality financial education and learn about money matters.
