New investments boost domestic tourism

HOSPITALITY Association of Zimbabwe (HAZ) president, Farai Chimba, says new investments in the industry have provided a boost to domestic tourism by offering more affordable products.
This comes amid a push to boost the domestic segment, which began at the height of the Covild-19 pandemic after the introduction of crippling restrictions on international travel, as governments sought to contain the outbreak.
“We have always had supply and demand issues (pushing costs) as well as a lack of products that cater for the entry-level and middle budget tourism. We had a landscape that was dominated by larger hotels catering to the international market, as well as catering for the high-end local market.
“Over the last five years or so we have seen the emergence of local investments in the form of Airbnbs and guesthouses and smaller lodges, which also can be agreeable on the budget for local and regional travellers,” Chimba told The Financial Gazette this week.
