Government targets pension funds boost in agriculture

PERMANENT secretary in the ministry of Agriculture, John Basera, says more needs to be done to rope in funding from pension funds in agriculture production.
Basera told the Stratus Commodity Funding listing announcement this week that demand for agricultural commodities remained relatively constant, regardless of economic conditions.
“Therefore, investing in agriculture focused commodity funds provides investors with a hedge against inflation and provides real returns.
“The Stratus Commodity Fund will be listed on the Financial Securities Exchange (Finsec) thereby providing an efficient exit mechanism for investors. This does not only broaden and deepen the local capital markets, but also brings in the much-needed vibrancy and diversity in our markets,” Basera said.
