THE Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers (CZR) says there were no disturbances to business activity yesterday as the country held its general election.
There was, however, little activity in retail shops in the central business district as human traffic was low and many businesses did not open.
“The environment was very peaceful and there was no interference with business,” CZR president Denford Mutashu told The Financial Gazette late yesterday.
“The retail and wholesale sectors have allowed all their employees to exercise their constitutional right to cast their vote,” he said.
Some retail shops and food outlets closed early as the day had been declared a public holiday.
Meanwhile, some polling stations opened late owing to delays in the delivery of ballot papers, with Harare and Bulawayo being the most affected. Voting, however, opened on time at most polling stations.
