Government targets manufacturing exports boost

INDUSTRY minister Sithembiso Nyoni says the government will continue to craft policies that encourage productivity, improve industry competitiveness and grow the manufacturing sector in a manner that promotes exports.
Nyoni made these remarks at the annual exporters conference hosted by trade development and promotion body, ZimTrade last week.
“One of my ministry’s targets under the NDS1 (National Development Strategy 1) is to increase the merchandise export by 10 percent per annum, as well as to increase trade in services by 15 percent per year.
“It is quite pleasing to note that, despite a number of challenges that industry is facing, exports of manufactured or valued added products increased to US$284 million in January-August 2023, compared to US$236 million during the same period in 2022, representing a 20 percent increase,” Nyoni said.
