STARAFRICA Corporation (Starafrica) says intermittent water supply from the local authority weighed down production at its Goldstar Sugars Harare plant (GSSH) during the quarter ended December 2019.
The plant has also been facing power supply challenges, and had to be shut down in July and August last year.
“The quarter October to December 2019 … saw water challenges as there were insufficient supplies from the City of Harare at a time when alternative sources such as boreholes could not yield meaningful supplies due to depleted water tables,” the company said recently in a trading update for the nine months to December 2019.
“The company is working on ways to ensure consistent water supplies at optimal costs,” the company added.
