CBZ Holdings boss Blessing Mudavanhu has been named both the Institute of Directors Zimbabwe (IoDZ) 2021 director of the year and chief executive of the year.
Mudavanhu was appointed CBZ group chief executive in June 2018 and led a turnaround of the perennially underachieving financial behemoth into a high performing blue chip.

Speaking at the event, veteran businessman Muchadeyi Masunda who chaired the adjudication council said emphasis was put on the nominees’ roles on boards and improving corporate governance in their lines of business.

Other winners were Advocate Rodgers Matsikidze, Philip Zengeya, Arthur Manase, Deborah Tigere and Courage Mhatsa
IoDZ chairman Mike Juru said the awards honoured extraordinary individuals who persevered during an unprecedented pandemic, as they steered their organizations in uncertain trying times with unforeseen economic downturns.

“For our safety and survival, we ought to embrace them. Today’s and tomorrow’s leaders are challenged by the ‘New Normal Environment’, the Covid-19 pandemic has indeed changed how companies operate and should grow.

“There is now a need for leadership that makes the long-term sustainability decisions and makes the resilience of our existence a top priority,” Juru said.
“The DOYA Awards Adjudication criteria are informed by the 360-degree IoD Director Competency Framework, this is an important tool for directors and boards, defining the distinct and wide-ranging competencies required for effective leadership.

“Putting knowledge of finance and business strategy on the same level as ethical decision-making, effective communication, and the encouragement of diverse views, the framework sets the standard for professional practice for directors”.
