Government to rope in private capital to bolster agriculture

THE government says it will open up more space to private capital as it bids to build on the momentum from the 2020/21 agriculture season and register another surplus in the coming summer cropping period.
This comes after Zimbabwe produced more than 3 million tonnes of cereals during the 2020/21 season, giving a surplus of 828 000 tonnes.
Information minister Monica Mutsvangwa told the media after this week’s Cabinet meeting that the government’s strategic objective for the 2021/22 season is to sustainably increase crop production and productivity to meet and surpass national requirements for both human consumption and industrial use.
