THE Zimbabwe Agriculture Society (ZAS) says this year’s show, which will showcase synergies between agriculture and mining, has been boosted by a strong farming season and firmer mining commodity prices.
The 111th edition of the country’s premier exhibition, the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show, organised by ZAS, is scheduled for end of this month and will be held under strict Covid-19 protocols.
Exhibitors will be required to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 or will have to produce a certificate from a test taken 48 hours before they attend the show.
The public will return to this year’s show after last year’s event was restricted to businesses to contain the spread of the pandemic.
“The highlights of the show will include an exhibition in the Mining Agri Village, which will demonstrate the strong synergies between mining and the agriculture sector.
“The village is vibrant this year on the back of a good agricultural season and strong growth in mining due to firmer commodity prices,” new ZAS chief executive officer, Andrew Matibiri, told the media this week.
Zimbabwe’s cereal production for the 2020/21 farming season is standing at 3 million metric tonnes against a requirement of 2,2 million metric tonnes while tobacco is now almost at 209 million kg against a projection of around 200 million kg.
The theme of the show is “Synergies for Growth – Cooperate, Collaborate, Complement” to rally support for the cause of agriculture and attendant value chains with a sub-theme, “Celebrating Unprecedented Growth”.
“If agriculture is to grow, we need to cooperate and attend to our value chains so that production, productivity and profitability at the end of the day are maximised,” Matibiri said.
