SA deportation blitz to pile pressure on Zimbabwe

SOUTH Africa (SA)’s ongoing blitz on illegal immigrants poses a threat to Zimbabwe, which is estimated to have more than a million citizens living in that country and has lately benefited immensely from diaspora remittances, analysts have said.
This comes as the regional economic giant has resolved to deport all illegal immigrants from its neighbour and other African countries, as it also seeks to cancel special permits for over 200 000 Zimbabweans living and working in the country — a decision currently being contested in court.

The deputy president of the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC), Mike Kamungeremu, said the deportations will have a negative impact on foreign currency remittances, considering that there are some in the country who rely on the funds.
