MASHONALAND East provincial permanent secretary, Tavabarira Kutamahufa, says the dairy value chain will be crucial in boosting the province’s economy under the national devolution agenda.
This comes after the Finance ministry recently began processing provincial gross domestic product (GDP) figures as part of the devolution programme.
“One of the pillars for growing our provincial economy is agriculture and among our agriculture programmes, the dairy value chain takes centre stage.

“We are the hub of milk production in the country. We produce a surplus of 19 million litres from a total production of 24 million litres and our aim is to produce 35 million litres. Our contribution to national production is 54 percent. We are therefore, kindly asking Nestlé to decentralise its production and processing. Bring it to Mashonaland East where the milk is, where the surplus is,” Kutamahufa said.
