THE Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe (POTRAZ) says Zimbabwe’s active mobile telephone subscriptions were down by 100 000 during the second quarter of 2023 to 13,95 million.
The mobile penetration rate was down by 0,7 percent to 91,9 percent during the same period.
Potraz said Econet was the only mobile network operator (MNO) to gain subscriptions after recording a marginal growth of one percent to 10,09 million.
State-owned mobile operator NetOne suffered the most, losing 5,2 percent to 3,55 million.
Telecel’s subscriptions were down by 0,1 percent to 307 534.
Mobile voice traffic rose marginally by 0,2 percent to record 2,53 billion minutes from 2,52 billion minutes recorded in the first quarter.
Econet and Telecel lost voice market share by 3,2 percent and 0,3 percent, respectively.
Conversely, NetOne gained voice traffic market share by 3,5 percent owing to its lucrative promotions for already depressed incomes.
Mobile Internet and data traffic were up 11,6 percent to 42 058,3 terabytes.
Econet recorded the biggest jump in terms of mobile internet and data traffic, which was up by 19,7 percent to 30,29 million MB from 25,32 million. newsdesk@fingaz.co.zw
