AFDIS clings to waning market share

WINES and spirits maker African Distillers Limited (AfDIS) made significant downward price adjustments for its products during first quarter (Q1) to June 30, 2024 in an effort to retain a waning market share in the face of increasing informal imports and the proliferation of illicit alternatives.

Until the recent surge of cheaper premium imported brands and illicit spirits, AfDIS has long held a stranglehold in the domestic wine and spirit sector.
However, price cuts resulted in the company’s top line unchanged at US$12,6 million for the quarter compared to prior year despite a modest six percent growth in volume performance.
